Scaffolding

Introduction


Scaffolding is a temporary frame. Usually constructed from steel or aluminium alloy tubes or coupled to provide of access of high level working areas as well as providing a safe platform which to work.  
In the construction of building the wall may be raised to a height of 3000mm or more than as the building develops in the upward direction. Working platform must be provided which could be extended stage by stage to enable the craft man to reach their work with easy & to provide the means of conveying their materials. These platforms are called Scaffolding. 
Scaffolding should be stocked in a safe, easily accessible place. Also Clamps, form ties...etc smaller items should be kept in the stores. In our site the main site store is responsible for the scaffolding material. Rigger are the persons who erect and dismantle the scaffolding for the site requirements.  
In our site we have special trained people for assembling and dismantling the scaffolding system. If we need the scaffolding for work we should inform them early, then they will arrange the scaffolding as perfectly and we should approved that with help of safety officer after this procedure we let the workers for use that scaffolding. 

Basic requirements of scaffolding 

 The Scaffold platform should be such materials as to be storing enough to take the weight of the workman & the material that are to be used for construction.  
 Materials should not fall from the working platform. 
 The scaffold members should be kept in correct positions. 
 It should not bend or more in any direction. 
 The Scaffold should be provided along the standards to prevent workmen slipping off or any material or tools falling down a guardrail should also be provided at about 750 – 950mm above the platform as an additional support to the workmen. 
 When it’s impartible to follow the legal requirements for Scaffolding, safety nets should be used.
